World Junior Championships

23 July 2016

Mollie Courtney just missed out on a place in the final of the 100m hurdles at the World Junior Championship in Bydgoszcz, Poland. The Dave Warner coached athlete produced a personal best of 13.28 seconds to finish second in her first round heat, just 0.03 seconds behind France’s Laura Vallete. Her time also put her fourth on the UK all time under 20 rankings, ranked her fifth in the 2016 UK senior rankings and improved her own under 20 and senior Cheltenham Harriers club records. In the following day’s semi-final Courtney took a credible third place, but only the top two in each of the three semi-finals were guaranteed a place in the final along with the two fastest losers. Courtney’s time of 13.42 seconds, her third fastest ever, placed her as the third fastest loser just 0.07 seconds behind the final qualifying slot.

Fellow Harrier Sophie Yorke was part of the British 4×100m relay squad at the championship, but was not chosen for the quartet that were eliminated after failing to get the baton round in their first round heat.
