Mollie Courtney won silver for the University of Gloucestershire at the British Universities Athletics Championships in Bedford last weekend. The Cheltenham Harrier, competing in her first 100m hurdles competition of 2017, recorded a time of 14.05 seconds in winning her heat running into a massive 5 metres per second headwind on Sunday. Any hopes that the weather might improve on Bank Holiday Monday were soon dashed when the semi-finals were delayed by a rainstorm. The wind seemed to have abated when the first 2 semis were run allowing some athletes to post sub-14 second times but picked up again to -2.8 metres per second for Courtney’s semi which she won comfortably in 14.09 seconds. In the final Courtney ran well to record 13.76 seconds, despite a 2.2 metre per second headwind, to claim second behind Yasmin Miller who won in 13.60 seconds. The performance places Courtney joint 7th on the early season Senior UK rankings for 100m hurdles. However most of the other performance were run abroad with only Miller recording a faster outdoor time in the UK this season so far.
