Gloucester September Open 7/9/21
10 September 2021
Tuesday 7th September Gloucester Athletics club hosted their annual September Open, unexpectedly high temperatures made for a perfect evening of athletics. U11G Sophie Gaskell had a successful evening obtaining new PBs in the 75m and long jump. Gaskell ran 11.8 in the 75m to finish in 2nd place and jumped 2.94 in the long jump to add 32cm to her previous PB. U13G Amber Tandy held on well in a very close 100m to win the race and equal her PB with a time of 14.6.
In the 800m U13G Evie Avery ran brilliantly to knock 5seconds off her PB and win her race by close to 4 seconds, crossing the line in 2:33.8. In an earlier race U13G Olivia Avery also ran well to finish 5th in 2:42.3.
The heat added an extra challenge to the longest event of the evening, the 5000m, however M50 Andy Gore was unfazed and produced his quickest time since 2015 to finish 3rd overall in 17:20.9. Remarkably Gore equalled the club M50 record set earlier this year by Dan Minors and did this just two days after competing in the Cheltenham Half Marathon.
In the discus, U17B Billy Buxton threw 28.42 to come in 2nd place.
