2023 National Schools Combined Events Champs

Sulaiman Ouiles has won an outstanding Silver in the National Schools Combined Events Champs rounding off his school athletics career in style!

Sulaiman scored a massive 6318 points placing him 3rd in the U20 UK rankings and securing him the podium finish just 5 points off the top spot. He started the weekend with 12.13 in the 100m, just 0.02 behind his best, he then equaled his long jump PB with 6.48 and then launched the shot put out to 10.82 adding 29 cm to his PB. Sulaiman impressed massively in the high jump where he cleared 1.95, finishing top in the event on the day, adding 7 cm to his PB and coming within 1cm of the club U20 record. He then rounded off day one with 55.81 for the 400m.

Day two opened with a solid 16.00 in the 100m hurdles, before he got back to PB ways with 34.13 in the discus. He then finished top of the pole vault competition with 4.40, 50cm clear of his nearest rival. The event was rounded off with 46.87 in the javelin and a 1500m PB of 4:55.30 rounded off an amazing weekend's work!

Isla Pain was also in impressive form finishing 8th in the Inter Girls heptathlon, in her first year in the age group, in a PB of 4450. Isla began by knocking her 80m hurdles PB down to 12.08, she then cleared 1.65 in the high jump and threw a shot put PB of 10.20. Day one was rounded off with 27.24 in the 200m. The long jump opened day two where Isla jumped 4.84, she then completed the competition with a javelin PB of 30.15 and 800m PB of 2:34.58.

In the same competition Esme Rolfe finished 33rd in a PB of 3395. Esme’s series included 14.04 (PB) in the 80m hurdles, 1.44 (PB) in the high jump, 8.25 in the shot put, 28.62 in the 200m, 4.53 in the long jump, 9.63 in the javelin and a run of 2:51.24 in the 800m.

Oliver Belbeck achieved 5 PBs out of 8 events in the Inter Boys Octathlon plus an overall points PB of 4108 to finish in 17th place. The competition began with the long jump where Ollie jumped 5.37, in the discus he produced his first PB with 25.34. He followed this up with a javelin PB of 28.46 and a 400m PB of 54.42, his first time under 55 seconds. Ollie opened day two with the same confidence running a 100m hurdles PB of 14.68. He was just 4 cm below his best in the high jump with 1.71 and threw 10.10 in the shot put before concluding the competition with a 1500m PB of 4:51.37.

Our final competitor was Megan Amey in the Junior Girls pentathlon. Megan scored 2457 points for 31st place. Megan ran 13.05 for the 75m hurdles, then threw a shot put PB of 8.87 and cleared a big high jump PB of 1.50. In the long jump she cleared 4.27 and then ran 2:51.66 in the 800m.
