GB under 20 selection

20 June 2016

Mollie Courtney has been named as part of the British Athletics teams for both the Mannheim Bauhaus Juniorengala this weekend in Germany and the IAAF World Junior Championships in Poland in July. The news followed the weekend which saw her winning the silver medal in the England U20 Championships having hit a hurdle near the end of the race. That cost her automatic selection as the winner at the trials but the selection panel took the view that her performances across the board mean that she is a medal contender at the World Juniors and so announced her call-up following the first selection meeting. According to her coach David Warner “Mollie has run some outstanding times this year placing her joint 5th on both the indoor and outdoor U20 UK all-time lists. I am so pleased for her and now we can really focus on her preparations for Poland”.

Fellow Harrier Sophie Yorke has also been called-up for the for the Mannheim Bauhaus Juniorengala this weekend as part of the GB 4×100m squad. Yorke competed in the England U20 championships last weekend finishing 5th in the final having run her second fastest ever legal time of 11.83 seconds when finishing 4th in the semi-final. Last month she anchored the GB Junior 4 × 100m team to victory at the Loughborough International and will take part in the GB relay practice session in London on Thursday before flying out to Germany. The Mannheim International effectively serves as the trials for the IAAF World Junior Championships for the GB 4 × 100m squads, so Yorke will be looking to impress the selectors and gain selection in July.
