Cleeve Cloud Cuckoo Race 2021

04 June 2021

Wednesday evening Cleeve Common was buzzing with runners once again, after the Cleeve Cloud Cuckoo 5.5mile Trail Race was cancelled last year due to the pandemic the return was met with much anticipation. The current heat wave made for a beautiful evening although slightly more challenging conditions for the athletes.

It was a win for Cheltenham Harrier Chris Wagstaff in 34:27, over 90seconds clear of his nearest rival, Marcus Mumford of Evesham Vale. Wagstaff ran a controlled race from start to finish pulling further and further clear as the race went on. Fellow Harrier Kiya Dee was 1st female and 9th overall, the junior athlete beat all her older competitors finishing in 40:04, 2minutes clear of the next female athlete, Kate Krzywiec of North Cotswold Tri and Run club.

The second Harrier home was Matthew Wagstaff in 39:20 for a brilliant 5th place. Simon Critchley was 3rd M40 and 7th overall just 14seconds behind Wagstaff in 39:34. Also running well against much older athletes was U20 Taya Dee who finished as 5th female and 25th overall in 44:57. Next Harrier home was Jo Wilkie as 3rd W35 and 29th overall in 45:42. M60 athletes Michael Ede and Paul Barnes finished 2nd and 4th in there age category respectively in times of 47:42 and 49:01. Vincent Thornley completed the challenging course in 55:41 for 85th place overall. The ever impressive Martin Ford was 2nd M70+ in 57:38.

Chris Wagstaff, Matthew Wagstaff and Simon Critchley combined to take the Male team title while Kiya Dee, Taya Dee and Jo Wilkie took the women's team prize.

Thank you and well done to all the athletes that attended the event and a big thank you to the organisers for all there hard work in bringing the race back.
