The Cheltenham Harriers under 17 girls 4×100m relay team set a new club record of 50.0 seconds as they took victory in the Midland Premier Division fixture of the Youth Development League in Rugby. The Dave Warner coached quartet of Mollie Courtney, Stephanie Beardsmore, Megan Bishop and Sophie Yorke clocked 50.0 seconds to knock a whole second from the previous club record that had stood since 2001. Courtney also claimed three individual victories as she set a 1.69m pb in the high jump, equalled her own club record of 11.6 for the 80m hurdles and won the triple jump with 10.14m. For the under 17 boys team decathlete Linton Gardiner impressed as he won the 400m in a personal best of 51.2 whilst finishing second in the both the high jump with a 1.75m clearance and discus with a pb of 36.53m.
Chris Bell-Hartley finished second in the 100m hurdles to move up to fifth in the UK rankings for the age group. His time of 13.6 seconds was also a club record as he knocked 0.1 seconds off Neil Crossley’s previous mark. In the field there were also second places for Ryan Ellis with 40.31m in the javelin and Imran Qureshi with 5.90m in the long jump whilst on the track Matt Crew placed second in the 3000m with a pb of 9:46.5 Sydney Sopher scored well in the throws with second in the hammer with 22.76m, third in the shot with 9.10m and third in the discus with 28.81m. Ben Clarke claimed two third places with 11.6 in the 100m and 23.4 in the 200m whilst Sophie Yorke took third in the girl’s 100m with a 12.5 clocking. There were also third places for Claudia Ovens with 43.8 in the 300m and for Emma Meecham-Jones with a pb of 6:30.4 in the 1500m steeplechase.
In the under 20 events Yesper Adams was the club’s sole winner as he lowered his 400m personal best to 50.3 seconds. Annabel Sherry placed second in both the hammer with 33.86m and shot with 12.17m whilst Emily Pascoe took second in the 100m hurdles with a 15.3 clocking. Two under 17 athletes that moved up to the under 20 age group and impressed were Harry Mahoney who took second in the 800m in 2:01.2 and Phoebe Hobbs who came second in the 1500m steeplechase as she set a new Harriers under 17 and under 20 club record of 6:00.9.
