Sprint Hurdles News, 17 May

There were successful performances by Cheltenham Harriers Mollie Courtney and Sophie Yorke at the Loughborough International, as both athletes recorded wind-legal PBs on a chilly and blustery day. In the match race, Courtney, in her first race for GB Juniors, was the youngest in the line-up competing against a strong field of mainly senior athletes. Running in lane six, it was a tough tussle all the way with the athlete outside her, but it pulled Courtney through to finish sixth with a new PB of 13.87 seconds, a time that was also a Harriers under 20 and senior club record. The performance was also her first sub 14 second run and marked a significant step towards her objective of running the European Junior’s qualification time of 13.70. Having recorded a swift 12.2 seconds in the 100m at the Cheltenham Schools District Trials on Friday night, Yorke competed in the under 18 100m hurdles guest race at Loughborough. Finishing in sixth place she managed to improve her PB over the 76 cm high barriers to 14.01 seconds, as just 0.12 seconds separating third and sixth positions.
