Mollie Courtney and Sophie Yorke both struck silver in individual events and a relay bronze in the Welsh under 20 International held in Cardiff. Competing for England Midlands against teams from England South, England North and Wales the pair ran legs 1 and 4 of the 4 × 100m relay which finished third in a time of 47.73 seconds. In the individual events Yorke, wearing her first England vest, ran a fine race into the wind but was outdipped at the line to finish second in a time of 12.13 seconds, just 0.03s behind the winner. Courtney survived the interruption to her high jump competition finishing second with a clearance of 1.69m, but was disappointed with her 100m hurdles time of 14.68 seconds that earned her a second silver medal. The pair helped England Midlands claim second place overall in the team competition.
Competing for Gloucestershire at the Inter-Counties and England Championship, Courtney enjoyed a return to form in the 100m hurdles winning her heat in 13.99 seconds. She improved her time in the final to 13.94 seconds but just missed out on the medals by 0.01 seconds as she finished in fourth place. The lack of a medal seemed to spur the Dave Warner coached athlete on the following day in the high jump where she finished second overall, but won the gold in the Inter-Counties competition. Her jump was an impressive 1.74m, season’s best and her second best jump ever.
