Cheltenham Harriers were triumphant in their third match of the Midland league Division 2 at Loughborough to move up into second place in the overall league standings. Neil Crossley and Jamie Courtenay starred in the field with Crossley winning the javelin, shot, discus and pole vault. Courtenay provided great support with three B string victories in the shot, pole vault and discus. James Campbell won the B javelin whilst Mel Bird won the women’s discus with a PB of 37.70m and also set a PB of 10.24m in the shot.
On the track the team started well with Jane Horder, Ash Hill and Russ Whiting all winning their 400 hurdle races This was quickly followed by Julia Cooke and Mia O’Connell winning their 800 races, with the same two athletes also setting PBs of 57.21 and 60.12 to win the two 400m races. Dan Owen celebrated his 21st birthday with a club record of 5:52.86 to win the 2000m steeplechase before Andy Smitherman and Hill ensured the Harriers took a clean sweep of the 400m events. Steph Beardsmore won the 100m B race and the womens 4 × 400m team of with Megan Bishop, Horder, Bethan Skuse and Cooke also claimed victory. There were PBs for Beth Hawling with 4.42.56 in the 1500m, Dmitry Nazarenko with 16:26.00 in the 5000m and Iain Devlin with 2:05.15 in the 800m, whilst youngsters Jess White and Ben Clarke made their league debuts for the club.
