Cheltenham Harriers made a solid start to their Midland League Division One campaign as they finished fourth in the opening fixture at the Prince of Wales Stadium. Jamie Horder ensured the team got off to a good start on the track as he won the men’s 400m hurdles A race in 56.9 seconds. Julia Cooke soon followed this with a comfortable 2:14.7 victory in the women’s 800m A race as she moved clear of the field on the final lap. Other track highlights included a second place for Russell Whiting in the 110m hurdles A race in 19.2 seconds and a 60.5 third place in the women’s 400m for Hannah Foward. It was in the field events that the Harriers scored more prominently with Annabel Sherry and Millie Wood ensuring maximum points in the shot as they won the A and B events with 12.51m and 9.76m respectively. Sherry also finished second in the discus with 30.53m. There was good points haul in the men’s hammer as Rob Wallace took second place in the A event with 48.22m and Sean Penny won the B competition with 42.50m. In the javelin Will Sage placed third with 45.60m whilst Ian Barough won the B event with 43.46m. In the men’s high jump Ashley Barker finished second with a 1.80m clearance with Rupert Dickinson’s 1.65m winning the B event. In the women’s high jump Anna Martin finished third in the A contest with 1.50m whilst Mollie Courtney won the B competition with 1.45m. Further jumps success came in the men’s long jump where Yesper Adams finished third in a personal best of 6.39m.
