Mollie Courtney struck gold in the 60m hurdles in the England under 20 Indoor Championship in Sheffield. The English Schools 100m hurdles Champion secured the national title by running a new PB of 8.64 seconds in a close-fought final, having won her heat in 8.69s. The performance also earned Courtney selection to represent England in the Welsh Indoor International next weekend in Cardiff. Multi-eventer Imran Qureshi chose to focus on the 60m hurdles and clocked 8.35 to finish fourth in his heat in just his second race in the U20 age-group. It was a busy weekend for Sophie Yorke who doubled up in the 60m and 60m hurdles. Running a new PB of 7.72 to finish third in her 60m heat, Yorke qualified for the semi-final where she finished sixth with another PB of 7.71. In the 60m hurdles she finished fourth in her heat in 9.02, narrowly missing a place in the final. Courtney’s 60m hurdle final time and Yorke’s 60m semi-final time also saw the Dave Warner coached athletes lower their own respective Cheltenham Harriers under 20 and senior indoor records.

Michael Gardiner and Jane Horder claimed wins for the Midland Masters team in the Masters Inter Area indoor competition. Gardiner won the V45 400m in 52.2 seconds and Horder the LV55 60 hurdles with a 10.03 clocking before cruising to a comfortable 400m win in a 70.41 seconds. Both athletes are preparing for the European Masters Indoors Championship in Torun in Poland at the end of the month.
