Home Countries International Decathlon, 30-31 August

Linton Gardiner set a decathlon PB as he won the under 20 Combined Events Home Countries International at Manchester. He started the two day event with a creditable 100m in 11.78 seconds and then went on to produce his best long jump in a decathlon of 6.55m. Gardiner then had reasonable performances in the shot and high jump before finishing the day in very wet conditions running 51.0 in the 400m. The Kerry Eddie coached athlete began day two in third place overall, starting with a very competitive 110m hurdles, followed by a PB in the discus of 37.96m and a solid pole vault. Gardiner then produced a massive PB of 49.67m in the javelin, followed by another PB in the 1500m with a 4:16.35 clocking. His final points score of 6603 was enough to win the competition and ranks him sixth in the UK for his age group.
