Linton Gardiner competed for England in the Home Countries Combined Events International in Hexham at the weekend. His selection for the U20 Men’s Decathlon team came after a successful weekend earlier in the year at Yeovil where he set a new Cheltenham Harriers club record of 6848 which ranks him 3rd in the UK this year. In Hexham he just missed an overall point’s personal best, competing in very poor weather conditions and managed to run seasons bests in the sprint hurdles, 400m and 1500m. He also pole vaulted well clearing 4.20m in a competition that lasted well over 2 hours. Linton finished in silver medal position in the individual event, with the England team placing first against the other nations. His final Decathlon of the year will see him compete in the English Schools competition at Bedford International Stadium in September, a competition he has medalled in for the last 2 years.
