Cheltenham Harriers men’s team claimed the county silver medals at the Gloucestershire Cross Country Relay Championships at Plock Court in Gloucester. John Parker got the team off to a good start as he placed second on the opening leg with 9:23 to finish nine seconds adrift of Stroud’s Ander Russell. Rhys Park then moved the Harriers into the lead as he clocked 9:27, the fastest leg by an under 20 athlete. Jon Barnes ran 10:07 on leg three with the Harriers now back in the silver medal position behind Stroud. The medal positions remained unchanged on the final lap as Andrew van Kints brought the Cheltenham team home with a 9:59 leg.
The Harriers B team finished sixth overall through Yesper Adams (11:09), Dmitry Nazarenko (10:15), Dave Randall whose 11:02 was the fastest time by a vet 50 runner and Iain Devlin (10:43). John Merrett (10:28), Alex Merrett (10:47), guest Harrier Paul Loveridge (13:12) and Steve Brown (14:50) brought the Cheltenham C team home in eleventh place. The Harriers ladies team of Helga Simeon (14:46), Sam Pickering (14:03), Bethan Skuse (13:30) and Rachel See (13:03) placed second behind a young Stroud team, but still came away with the county senior gold medals.
