There were medals for George Bygrave, Ben Roberts, Dmitry Nazarenko and Mia O’Connell as Harriers athletes enjoyed success in the Gloucestershire Schools Cross Country Championship in Newent. The Balcarras School teammates of Bygrave and Roberts opened a gap over the field in the under 15 boys race before losing out to South Cotswold runner Tom Mortimer in the second half of the race. Bygrave finished six seconds ahead of Roberts as the pair claimed silver and bronze respectively. In the same race Michael Horrocks in ninth and Nathaniel Hatherley in eleventh also claimed places in the county team. Dmitry Nazarenko was just three seconds behind the race winner Scott Carpenter as he claimed the silver medal in the under 17 boys race in which Jamie Harper finished seventh and Harry Mahoney came ninth. There was also a silver medal for Mia O’Connell In the under 19 girl’s race in which Rachel See took fifth place. There were fourth placed finishes for Oliver Powell in the under 13 boy’s race and for Claudia Ovens in the under 17 girl’s race in which Fenella Madley placed eighth. Matt Parr came home seventh in the under 19 boys race whilst in the under 15 girl’s race Sophie Whitehead and Agata Giles finished eighth and twelfth respectively.
