Neil Crossley claimed the biggest win of his athletics career as he won the javelin at the English Championships in Birmingham. The twenty-four year olds second round throw of 70.09m saw him take the title as he finished 58cm ahead of Lincoln’s Joe Dunderhale. The distance was also a season’s best for Crossley, whose personal best of 71.28m was set last year, and earned him a place at the GB Olympic Trials to be held later this month. There was also a season’s best for Sean Penny who threw 43.81m for sixth place in the hammer, whilst Russell Whiting ran 59.08 seconds in his 400m hurdles heat.
