Beth Hawling set an impressive 3000m personal best as she finished third in the C race at the Watford Open meeting. The twenty year old knocked two second off her previous best, but was agonisingly just short of the breaking the ten minute barrier with a time of 10:00.66. In the 3000m A race Dan Owen placed sixth in a time of 8:30.57.
Dmitry Nazarenko took the honours by winning the mile at the Gloucestershire Championship meeting at the Prince of Wales Stadium. The eighteen year old was content to sit behind Severn’s Kyran Hale for three laps before making kicking clear at the bell for a seven second victory in 4:39.6 to take the under 20 gold in a time that was quicker than the following men’s race. Jacob Pickering was fourth in the junior race to take the under 17 silver in 4:56.0 whilst under 17 runner Ellie Hathaway beat her senior rivals to take gold in 6:00.6. In the men’s race Mike Gray took second in 4:48.0 after leading for the first three laps before being overtaken by Severn’s Mark James at the bell. In the same race Iain Devlin placed fourth in 4:50.4 and Steve Maguire finished sixth in 5:00.4 whilst Gareth Edwards took second place in the over 35 masters race in 5:04.7 behind Black Pear’s Darren Salisbury. In the 10,000m Roger Mullins was fourth runner home in 34:54.7 in a race where wheelchair athlete Ed Grazier led the field home in 32:08.3.
Dmitry Nazarenko followed up his midweek victory with a weekend win at the Cheltenham parkrun with a 17:20 clocking on the Pittville Park course. Mike Gray followed four seconds later whilst Alex Lee (17:54), Dave Rantell (18:04) and Ben Williams (18:17) finished in fourth, fifth and seventh respectively.
