Jacob Pickering continued his good recent from with a fine fourth place in the under 20 race at the South West Cross Country Championship in Exeter. The event, run within the men’s race over a demanding 9km course at Bicton College, included a steep hill at the end of each lap which tested even the more experienced athletes. In just his third senior cross country seventeen year old Pickering finished 31st overall, 47 seconds adrift of under 20 bronze medallist Luke Prior of Wells City Harriers. Ahead of Pickering Dan Owen placed twelfth as he continues to build race fitness ahead of the defence of his Gloucestershire Championship title early in the New Year. Dave Hemmings finished as first vet 50 runner home in the off road Forest of Dean Christmas 5 mile race as he finished fifteenth overall whilst James Wilkinson took sixth place at the 7km off road Rudolph’s Rampage Race in Painswick. Weekend parkruns saw Graham Rush win the Cambridge event in 16:01 and Matthew Dwerryhouse as the first Harrier home at the Cheltenham event in Pittville Park with an 18:59 clocking for seventh place.
