Dmitry Nazarenko continued his fine recent form finishing as the first under 19 schools runner home in the schools match that took place within the British Cross Country Challenge event in Cardiff. Seventeen year old Nazarenko, who was part of the Gloucestershire team that took on Cardiff and Vales, Glamorgan and Valleys and South East Wales, finished over half a minute clear of his nearest challenger as he took seventh place overall in the under 20 race. Fellow Cheltenham Harrier Matt Crew finished thirteenth overall and as third schools athlete home whilst Jacob Pickering finished 25th. In the under 20 women’s race Rachel Longstaff ran well for ninth place overall to claim third in the schools race before Rachel See finished 12th, Emma Meecham-Jones took 18th and Claudia Ovens finished 22nd.
Elsewhere Russell Forsbrook finished second in the Weston Prom 5 mile race as he finished in a time of 29:14 in horrendously windy conditions on the sea front. There were parkrun wins for Phil Wylie in 15:24 at the Exeter Riverside event and Andrew van Kints with 16:50 in Lincoln. Closer to home James Wilkinson finished seventh in 19:50 at the Cheltenham parkrun in Pittville Park and Jamie Courtenay placed 88th in the muddy 9 mile Riverside Rollick in Thornbury.
