Dave Roper set a new course record as Cheltenham Harriers dominated the Cirencester 10k road race with eight runners in the top twelve to comfortably take the team prize. With the previous days Midland 6 Stage Road Relay Championship cancelled due to an e-coli outbreak in Sutton Park some of the team took the opportunity for a run out over the testing course on the Bathurst Estate. Right from the start the Dave Newport coached trio of Roper, John Parker and Rhys Park moved clear of the field before Park was dropped by his teammates at around the 3km mark. Roper upped the pace on the hill just after 4km to open a gap over Parker and remained unchallenged at the front of the race as he claimed victory in 31:43. Parker ran isolated in second to finish runner up in the race for the third consecutive year in 32:41 with Park isolated in third in 33:19.
In his first race since joining the Harriers Marc Fallows claimed fifth place in 34:40 whilst Roger Mullins finished seventh in 35:10. There was a close battle to be the next Harrier home as Ben Price, Jon Barnes and Will New were all locked together with 400m remaining. Price claimed the bragging rights over his training partners as he took tenth in 35:42 with Barnes just two seconds adrift in eleventh and New a further eleven seconds back in twelfth. Elliot Prince placed sixteenth in 36:59 whilst veteran Dave Rantell picked up useful county series points with 38:25 for twenty-first place. Ken Buckle finished as first vet 70 runner home in 47:01 whilst other Harriers in action were Paul Barnes (40:50), Richard Birch (42:27), Dave Hemmings (42:49), Adrian Higgs (46:07) and Samantha Pickering (48:59).
