Linton Gardiner moved up to tenth in the national under 17 long jump rankings as Cheltenham Harriers hosted their young athletes open meeting at the Prince of Wales stadium. The English decathlon champion won the competition with a personal best of 6.63m as he saw off the challenge of teammate Imran Qureshi who jumped a pb of 6.37m for second place. Gardiner also won the 100m in 11.9 seconds and the shot with a distance of 11.66m. The under 17 events also brought pbs and wins for Ryan O’Connor with 35.86m in the javelin and Dmitry Nazarenko with 2:06.0 in the 800m. In the under 15 events Michael Horrocks won the 800m in a pb of 2:15.5 and Simon Fraser won the long jump with 5.15m. The under 13 age group saw Bethan Samuel shave 0.07 seconds from her own club record with a 2:30.1 clocking to win the 800m and Alex Hards win the boys 75m hurdles in 15.8 seconds. There were under 11 75m sprint victories for both Robert Smith and Grace Pitman in 11.5 and 12.3 seconds respectively whilst Pitman also won the 600m in 1:56.0.
