Dave Roper and John Parker finished second and third as for the first six Cheltenham Harriers home set personal best times at the inaugural Cheltenham Half Marathon. Roper kept with eventual winner Toby Spencer until around the halfway point of the race before the Coventry athlete pulled clear to win in 67:00 with Roper second in 68:53. Veteran Parker produce an excellent performance for third as he broke the 70 minute barrier for the first time with a 69:56 clocking that puts him fourth in the national rankings for his age group. Ben Price and James Bingham also ran well as they finished seventh and eighth respectively in 74:20 and 74:28. There were also personal bests for Anthony Bailey who finished twelfth in 75:49 and Phil Beastall who came fourteenth in 76:59. Andy Gore continued on the comeback trail in 81:23 before Dave Hemmings came home as third over 45 runner in 83:51. Gavin McCaugherty earned an 85:53 pb time and Steve Linton recorded 87:35 before Sam Pickering led the Harriers women home in 1:49:50. Nicola Wiggins (1:51:16), Gavin Cotter (1:52:25) and Clare Ovens (2:12.00) completed the Harriers contingent. Earlier in the day Ed Grazier was the first wheelchair athlete home in 67:56.
