British Masters Championship, 9-10 August

At the British Masters Championships in Birmingham Martin Ford won three titles in the V70 age group as he contested the middle distance events at national level for the first time. On Saturday he won a tactical 1500m in 5:26.91 before taking gold in Sunday’s 5000m in 19:24.59 and completing the treble by moving clear of the field in the last 3000m of the 800m for a 2:44.63 victory. Both Michael Gardiner and Jane Horder also claimed national titles as they showed they are in good form for the European Masters Championships which start on 21st August in Izmir, Turkey. Competing in the M45 category Gardiner won the 400m in 51.01 seconds and silver in the 200m in 23.02 seconds. In the W55 category Horder came home with two golds, winning the 80m hurdles in 13.13 seconds and 300m hurdles in 49.53 seconds.
