Anthony Bailey was the winner of the Bourton Hilly Half Marathon after a close battle with Mike Smith of the host club. The pair and David Cantwell (Woodstock) were locked together at a comfortable pace for the first ten miles before Smith made an attack on the long downhill stretch back towards the village. Bailey, however, managed to close the gap and tucked in behind his rival waiting for the next move. The Bourton man made a final effort with half a mile to go, but Bailey moved clear with 400m remaining to stop the clock in 1:18:10 for a four second victory to win the race for a second consecutive year. Veteran Dave Rantell was fourth home in 1:19:58, with Dave Hemmings (1:28:13), Paul Barnes (1:32:21) and Steve Linton (1:33:30) also contesting the challenging race.
