Dan Owen claimed his highest ever Birmingham Cross Country League Division One finish as he led the Cheltenham Harriers team home in the season’s opening fixture at Leamington. The nineteen year old paced his race well with a mature performance over a challenging course to come home in 34th place. Marc Fallows and James Bingham both ran well on their league debuts to place 59th and 69th respectively as they enjoyed the opportunity to test themselves at a higher level. Next Harrier home was veteran Darren Jordan in 88th, with Roger Mullins following in 100th place. The battle to be the final scorer in the six man team was a close affair with Russell Forsbrook passing Elliot Prince on the final lap to finish 127th, with Prince finishing just six places behind. Justin Fortner placed 197th on his Cheltenham debut as he stayed ahead of club stalwart Ian Giles in 203rd, whilst Richard Birch came home in 244th place. The Harriers team placed tenth of the sixteen top flight clubs.
